Our Agri Inform team has forged a name for itself as the leading agri-business
publisher in New Zealand, through the awards and accolades of its editorial
team, contributing journalists and the innovation and enterprise of all staff.
2011
- A freelance journalist based in Rangiora, Hugh de Lacy, took out this year’s top award for Agricultural Journalists at the awards night for the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators.
- The AgResearch Science Writers Award, established to enhance standards of science writing, especially about pastoral agriculture, was won by Lynda Gray, regular contibutor of Country-Wide.
- The Rural Women of New Zealand Award, which recognises the important contribution women make (and have always made) in the rural community, either through their role in the farming sector or to the general rural environment was won by Rebecca Harper, of NZX Agri.
- The AGMARDT Agribusiness Award, which recognises high quality information about and effective analysis of national, global and other agribusiness, was won by Hugh Stringleman, of NZX Agri.
- The Guild’s own award is designed to encourage and recognise excellence among journalists with three or less years reporting on agricultural issues, The Agricultural Journalism Encouragement Award went to Andrew Stewart of NZX Agri.
2010
- Dominion
Post journalist, Jon Morgan, walked away with the top award for agricultural journalists at the
awards night for the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and
Communicators.
- Jon
Morgan won the supreme award, the BNZ Partners' Rongo Award recognising
excellence in agricultural journalism, for a portfolio of two articles,
one on wines from the Gimblett gravels in Hawke's Bay, the other on
Firstlight Foods.
- The
award for runner-up went to the team from the Country-Wide monthly newpaper, for two series, one on
the future of the monitor farm programme and the burden of local government
rates on rural people.
- A
total of eight awards were presented, seven for journalism and one for
photography. The key objectives of the awards are the encouragement and
recognition of excellence in agricultural journalism.
- This
year, the Guild has introduced a new award, encouraging and recognising
excellence among journalists with three or less years reporting on
agricultural issues.
- The
winner of the inaugural Guild Agricultural Journalism Encouragement Award
went to Blair Ensor of the Marlborough Express.
- Another
new award this year is the Horticulture New Zealand Journalism Award,
which was won in its inaugural year by Dominion Post farming editor, Jon
Morgan. He also won the AGMARDT Agribusiness Journalism Award.
- The
winner of the Rural Women of New Zealand Award was Aaron Smale, for two
articles that appeared in Young Country.
- The
AgResearch Science Writers Award was established to enhance standards of science, Susan won writing especially about pastoral agriculture Murray, from Radio New Zealand's Country
Life programme.
- The
BNZ partners also sponsors the Farm Business Writing Award, which was won this year by Jackie Harrigan,
for two articles in Country-Wide.
- The
Federated Farmers Rural Photography Award was won by Dominion Post farming editor, Jon Morgan.
- Bank
of New Zealand Rongo Award for excellence in rural journalism, won by
regular contributing writer Richard Rennie.
- Runner-up
Bank of New Zealand Rongo Award, won by the Country-Wide reporting team
for the Prime Movers special feature in the January 2010 issue of
Country-Wide.
- Bank
of New Zealand Farm Business Writing Award, won by Sandra Taylor.
- Federated
Farmers Photography Award, won by regular contributing writer Marie
Taylor.
- Young Country, finalist at the Magazine Publishers Association annual awards.
2009
- Country-Wide Southern was a finalist in Best Trade Professional magazine/newspaper
category in the 2009 Qantas Media Awards.
- Tony is finding out from Terry what the Guild of Ag Journos awards were.
It was in the FW about October 15-20 last year.
